The Geek with Lulu and Phoebe in Paris
The Geek and Lulu: Explaining why the earth is not flat......
Of course hands down, the winner will be uber-geek, Barack Obama. How can it not? He will be the man that all Geeks will strive to imitate. Smart, confident, unwavering, and just plain cool.
However, there are lesser-known geeks that ought be to mentioned here. For example, Lulu and Phoebe would like to nominate their very own guy: The Geek as we call him.
This Geek can build the world a new fangled computer chip that makes the world tick tock, something we all use but never think about. And he can also create a French dinner that would make Thomas Keller smile. And not only that, but he can change a diaper, invent science fiction fairy tales suitable for small children, repair a broken toy with paper clips or sticky tape, toss away the directions and build a 3000 part gizmo toy Christmas Eve - missing parts not a problem. This Geek can visit an elderly Aunt and remember to bring her flowers and photos of the children and take her to lunch at her favorite restaurant and get the best table.
He gets up for night feedings of small children, night outings of small dogs, and first morning care taking of small children and dogs. He brings the typist (that would be me) perfect lattes in bed in the morning before he leaves for Geek-dom chip making. He will make time for every single parent-teacher conference and veterinarian appointment. He always volunteers to clean up dog poop first. And he calls his parents more than once a year and remembers his mother’s birthday with her favorite yellow roses.
He rarely brings home flowers, but he will always do the dishes including pots. The Geek can explain why the earth does what it does and why we need to take better care of it. He can tell you why things happen and how things work. He always has an answer that is right, particularly if the question is science or math or how computers work, and why they don’t work. Doesn’t mean, though, that he can fix them – I’ve tried!
The Geek can converse with rocket scientists and he can converse with artists. This Geek is an odd duck. He is at home at the Opera as he is in a Geeky science lab wearing a lab coat and geeky goggles. He can order dinner in fluent French at Table Joel Robuchon in Paris and can also pick out a great tomato at Whole Foods.
And luckily he never wears plaid and stripes together……
I have loved this Geek since he and I were 15 years old, 30 something years ago. This Geek who cried (excuse me - sobbed) when President Obama won Pennsylvania and Virginia and then the election, has always been one of the sexiest guys around. Meet The Geek.

Absolutely brilliant. You win.
My hubby can confirm that I announced I am submitting him as the Sexiest Man Alive earlier today before I read this. Great minds.
30 years going back to age 15 is mind boggling.
You should hang on to The Geek. Next to my man, he sounds like the best thing going. :)
Paws up!

How sweet! I can't believe that you two have known each other for so long. Were you each other's first loves? That is so romantic. And any man that will clean up the dog poop first is a definite keeper.
Lisa - yes, actually we were each other's first everything. We met in the French Horn section of the high school Orchestra and it was love/hate at first site. I got second chair and he got third....but he could count and I could not, so hate turned to kindness, hilarity and then love. I still can't count. And he's the, well, geek.
I agree with P Howey. Definitely hot. You're a lucky woman.
And you got to take your dogs to Paris!
My geek and I are leaving for Paris on Thursday. Unfortunately, we have to leave our beloved standard poodles behind -- too big to fit under the seat. And since le nest egg has shrunk considerably, Robuchon, alas, will not be on our list.
Anyway, glad my little OS crisis led me to your blog! And thanks again ;-)

Oh man. Paris? I am so jealous. Eat a pain au chocolate for me! And say bonjour to Paris for me. I miss it a lot.
And thanks for the nice words. The Geek is blushing now.
