A Cup of Joe, A Few Thoughts, and A Brand New Day

Rate: 7
I am certain it was a little bit of dementia on my part because God knows, the bottle of blue shampoo is running on empty, but I swear to you that I thought I saw a tiny little wink from our new President to the cameras - which would be to me of course, when the whirly bird that carried away the Shrub family took off into the sky.
Maybe it was the spot on my glasses reflecting the dirt on the television screen.  And maybe not.  It was in HD after all.   A wink is a wink.
I heard that the Bush's only had one dresser left to move from the White House on moving day today.  Usually the trucks are there to move one family in and the other out.   I imagine they used a tiny U-haul for the dresser with maybe HW driving because I didn't see him get in the whirly bird.   But then again, I was cleaning my glasses by then and couldn't see the screen clearly if it was in HD on steroids.
I wonder what they did with their furniture?  Did they give it to Goodwill?  Salvation Army?   Or, perhaps it got sold on Ebay like Sarah Palin's wardrobe?   And just maybe they only had one dresser for the entire eight years expecting to get evicted at any moment?  If you have to vacate quickly, it helps to travel lightly.
I heard the talking news heads chatting about the pledge of allegiance and quoting old Sarah about the "Under God" passage and her comment about "the founding fathers wanted it in there so it must be good".....but apparently it wasn't until the 50's that it was added when all good God fearing people were including God fearing languge in everything.   The talking news heads had a good giggle about that one.
And I am so glad TIVO has that dandy replay button because I thought perhaps my glasses were also responsible for Robert's slip in the oath this morning when he said not only the "faithfully" deal backward, but "President TO the United States" v. "OF the United States".    And wasn't he reading it from something?   If not, he'd better take some memorzing courses cause the damn thing is 35 words, no?   Good thing one of them knew.   Talk about gracious under pressure.
By then, with a cup of little Joe tucked in me I was able to listen to the inaugural address and was sure that the camera guy was just stunned enough to forget to pan out a bit so we could see the faces of the those that shall be shameless nameless to whom President Obama was addressing his remarks.   In keeping with the somber tone, I was sure that Bush might have given him the finger under his chair.    Hey!  He's done it before.  Have you seen my misunderappreciation of GW post?
And one more thought.   I really enjoyed the poem today, but I didn't enjoy the reading of the poem.   After the Reverand Lowery gave the benediction, I so wanted him to take the poem and re-read it.  I bet it might have had a little sass after that.
Kudos to Michelle Obama for wearing killer heels the entire day and not grimacing in pain after all that standing and walking.  Actually it is the getting up after sitting that really is the killer of the feet in those heels.  She looked stunning and I enjoyed that she wore a color that no one else thought to wear.
Last thing.   Ok.  I had a cup of Big Joe  and my fingers are typing all by themselves by now.  I was a little bit mortified at the parade.  First of all it was 30 below zero.  I know what a tuba can do in the freezing cold and it isn't pretty.   I also noticed that there were tons of empty seats in the bleachers and in the President's special little bleacher house of 34 inch glass.   It seems they set up the security checkpoints so that going from the mall to the parade was not a straight shot, but a trip around town and many people with tickets never got in.   Too bad.  It looked like a ghost town on camera.   Was it Taft who had an 8 hour parade?   Obama's parade might come close.   I could leave and go buy more blue shampoo and get back and still have plenty of parade to watch.
All I can say is what a difference a day makes.

I think security was at a premium today, and I'm thankful for that...

Nice thoughts. Loved it. I shared a bit of it. As a trumpeter, playing in that kind of cold could be brutal.

I like your observations, particularly the part about the poetry reading. I imagine Rev. Lowery could've done great things with that poem if given the chance.

Did you get more shampoo?
Thanks Greg!

Lisa - it would have been great fun to hear him sing song that poem, just what it needed. and nope. blue shampoo is scary. I think I will stick to green.
thank you for sharing your thoughts. now, i get it, the poem was okay but that poet read it horribly. thank you, i thought that i once again, just didn't get poetry. god, i hope obama winked when bush left. great synoposis of the event.

What a great post. Yes, most definitely, one day, big difference.
absolutely Teddy! and yeah, M. - a new page in a new book! yay.
I tuned into CSPAN because there you can avoid the commentary from the dilettantes (". . . and today marks the peaceful transition of power . . .") and you can sometimes get camera angles and audio that you won't find everywhere else.

Turns out I didn't hear many extemporaneous comments of note, except one. As Ebenezer Cheney was being wheeled down the breezeway, someone leaned in and said, "Keep up the good work, Mr. Vice President."

That certainly was a curious remark. Since when is destroying the fabric of a nation considered good work? And how shall he keep it up?
Ebeneezer Cheney!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I spit my coffee on the screen through my nose. That was great. Keep up the good work? Huh? Seriously, maybe they meant hiding in the mountain???

Thank you jw - I haven't laughed like that in weeks!
